As relations with the US worsens, China focuses its efforts on the Global South. A region representing about 85 percent of the world's population and about 39 percent of global GDP. How will this impact superpower rivalry? An area of focus is ASEAN - the Association of Southeast Asia Nations. A region that is one of the fastest growing in the world.  Across ASEAN, there’s been a deluge of China projects including railways, ports, EV plants, nickel plants, industrial parks etc. What are the pros and cons of all these China investments? 

China and some ASEAN nations also have unresolved differences in the South China Sea. How will this impact China’s plan to win hearts and minds in the Global South? As Trump tariffs bring uncertainties to the region, will it cause ASEAN nations to pivot towards China?

Season 1 

Over the last twenty years, China’s influence in the Middle East has grown substantially. China has major economic partnerships with Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and also Israel. How is the war in Gaza impacting these investments? Can China be a peace mediator between Israel and Hamas? And how do the current events in the Middle East impact great power competition between the United States and China?
