Nepal: The Flood’s Wake

When a section of mountain high in the Himalayas collapses, rock and ice become a devastating flood that races through Nepal’s valleys, sweeping away homes and separating families.

Amid the destruction, extraordinary stories emerge. After losing friends and relatives, Gautam Man Singh helps create a refuge for traumatised children and families. Volunteer Samir Gurung and Hami Nepal brave damaged roads to bring aid to isolated communities. Far downstream, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police teams risk their lives searching treacherous rivers for the missing, determined to return loved ones to grieving families.

Guan Daoxuan travels from China to Nepal searching for his missing wife, while survivors face lost homes and uncertain futures. Scientists reconstruct the disaster’s origins on Langtang Lirung as flood-monitoring specialists ask what failed and how communities can be better protected.

Amid immense loss, this is a story of courage, compassion and resilience.
